Australian Women in Music Awards

What a night! I was really honoured to have been named a Finalist in the first annual round of the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA), and to have been there in the room for this great celebration of women's contributions to the music industry. Several winners mentioned in their remarks how important it is the AWMA is including not only artists but also all the behind the scenes roles that rarely - well let's face it, never - get celebrated. Music photography, studio production,  live production, education ... it was fantastic to see women being recognized for their hard work and dedication, women who have been pursuing careers in these less glamourous and less visible roles for literally decades. There were great performances and many inspiring moments, and lots of laughs and goodwill and solidarity. Go AWMA, long may they continue with this long overdue and very necessary undertaking!
