Flora australiae

12/08/2018

There have been 5 performances of my new work, Flora australiae, written for wind multi-instrumentalist, Diana Tolmie over the past 2 months. It started with a wonderful evening of new and Brisbane-original music by EMO at the Brisbane International Jazz Festival (May 31). July/Aug saw - or should I say heard - three more performances - Queensland Youth Orchestra Big Band @ Brisbane Jazz Club (July 19); High Street Screamers Big Band @ Melbourne International Saxophone Festival (July 29); Con Artists @ Queensland Conservatorium (Aug 3). Diana also performed the first movement,Eucalyptus grandus,in a re-orchestrated version for saxophone orchestra @ World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia.

I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Josh Hatcher of EMO, Bohdan Davison of QYO, Ben Nieuwkerk of High Street Screamers and all the musicians in the bands who put time and energy and good will into learning and performing this work! It has been absolutely a thrill for me to hear it come to life and be so well presented.

There are more performances scheduled for next year, but in the meantime, at least one movement will be performed by BCJO at the Brisbane Jazz Club on Dec. 16, 2018, along with many more of my compositions and arrangements.
